A core tenet

Music is a big part of the St. Cuthbert’s experience. We are very proud of our choir and they consistently enrich our Sunday experience with their vitality and energy. They are a long-standing attraction at our Carols by Candlelight service over Christmas and act as the spiritual hub of St. Cuthberts.

An eclectic band

The choir is a tight knit group that regularly socialises over a weekly dinner and also after Sunday service. They are led by our tireless choir master, Grahame Dudley, whose profound love of music history enables him to blend the old with the new seamlessly. 

Church organ

St. Cuthbert’s is blessed to have a traditional pipe organ which remains a staple of Christian worship right around the world. It serves as a signpost to the journey of engineering since the early days of Christianity and provides a platform to create some of the trademark sounds of the church from grand anthems to solemn reflective hymns.

How the choir began

St. Cuthbert’s is one of only a handful of churches in Adelaide with a choir. We have sung at every Sunday service since 1980. The journey began when a new visitor decided he would like to bring choristers back. He started with himself (tenor), daughter (soprano), son, another soprano, and finally his wife (alto). That visitor was Grahame Dudley, who would go on to become our choir master, and also worked as senior lecturer at the Elder Conservatorium of Music.

We soon amassed more singers and the choir grew. We are now a group of ten, all singing acapella (unaccompanied) in four or more parts. We love singing every Sunday, also Easter and Christmas, and at special events. You are welcome to attend Thursday night practices at 7pm or come and hear the choir sing at the Sunday 10am service.
